History: McDonald Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning
Back in 1957, my father decided it was time
to work for himself. The economy had slowed and
work in the plumbing industry was unpredictable.
With five children and my sister, Mary, on the
way, my father, Vince, and mother, Dorothy, took
charge by starting McDonald Plumbing Company. It
was a Mom and Pop operation serving the
Sacramento area. Dad was the plumber and Mom was
in charge of customer service, accounting,
running parts and raising 7 children.
I was the only boy, named after my Dad, so it
was only natural that I started helping with the
business when I was 16. In a twist of fate, Dad
broke his arm one summer, and I had to step in.
He would sit on the tub or toilet and give me
step-by-step instructions while I learned every
aspect of the plumber’s trade.
I attended a 4-year apprenticeship while
starting my own family in the late 1970’s. I
bought the business so that my folks could
retire in 1984. After that, we began to hire
employees, add heating and air services, and
expand. Today, we have a team of 18 terrific
employees. It has been a great 50 years! I have
so much to be thankful for- especially our
wonderful customers. On this, our 50th
Anniversary, I want to extend a heartfelt THANK
YOU to all of our customers.
Sincerely,
Vince McDonald
